Brainchild of Claude Maus, visual and graphic artist turned fashion designer, Rob Maniscalco, established his label in 1999. Collaborating with an associate he produced art installations, objects and customised clothing which had an emphasis on the deconstruction of sportswear, branding and a play on logos. Still drawing on these influences, Maniscalco incorporates his fascination with the mediaeval and gothic genres. The work of Flemish painters Bruegel and Bosch, as well as cartoon characters, fairy tales and the usual troupes of rock and heavy metal form the narrative for recent collections. Combining an eclectic mix of characters from court jesters to witches and hooded executioners, to Snow White and the evil Dwarfs. Claude Maus pits pop-culture against stories of the underworld and the struggle between good and evil. Claude Maus was awarded the Omega Young Designer of the Year Award for 2003 and has since had shows in 2004 during London Fashion week and Paris Fashion week.
